The UConn women’s basketball team moved up a spot to No. 6 in the AP Top 25 poll entering Week 11 after another undefeated week in Big East play.

The Huskies’ jump came in large part because Texas fell to No. 7 with a 67-50 loss at No. 2 South Carolina on Sunday, and LSU took over the Longhorns’ former spot at No. 5 thanks to a narrow victory over No. 15 Tennessee. The Lady Vols, who will host UConn in Knoxville on Feb. 6, climbed a spot back into the top 15 after their two-point loss to the Tigers.

UConn hasn’t played a ranked opponent since its 72-70 loss to No. 4 USC on Dec. 21, but the Huskies are guaranteed at least two more top-25 matchups before the end of the regular season. After their rivalry showdown with Tennessee, UConn will head to Columbia to face South Carolina looking for its first win against the Gamecocks since 2020-21.

Despite playing both of their games last week with superstar Paige Bueckers sidelined by a left knee sprain, the Huskies cruised to a 54-point rout of Xavier on Wednesday then came back from an early deficit for an 18-point win at Georgetown on Saturday. UConn remains the only ranked representative of the Big East, but Creighton also received votes in Week 11 for the first time since Week 2. The Huskies face the Bluejays in Omaha, Neb. on Jan. 25 with sole control of first place in the conference on the line.

Star guard Azzi Fudd stepped up in Bueckers’ absence, leading the Huskies with 20-plus points in both wins and earning a place on the Big East’s weekly honor roll for the first time in 2024-25. Rookie phenom Sarah Strong also continued to dominate averaging 15.5 points, eight rebounds, 3.5 assists and four steals across the two games, receiving her sixth Big East Freshman of the Week honor this season. Strong has won the weekly recognition six times in just 10 weeks.
