Ignore this at your own peril. My mother’s parting message was not about religion, culture or even social behavior – it was never forget. Her father had lived to be 106 years old and died in 1950 before I was born.
He was 75 when she was born. I admired him for taking good care of himself, not realizing that his political acuity was his greater accomplishment. He had gotten his family out of Stalin’s Russia in the 30’s and Hitler’s Germany in 1939. He was able to do so because he paid attention to what was going on in the world and didn’t ignore obvious warnings.
The “Brown Shirts” began in 1921. No one took them seriously until it was too late. Trump goes on continuously about his enemies, our country and his persecution. But he tells the truth about what he’s going to try to do. Take him seriously and literally. There is something we can still do. The Senate can keep him in check if they care more about preserving our democracy and our country than about losing their jobs.
Write to your senators as many times as you can telling them you will come out in the primaries and support them if they do the right thing. We need qualified leaders in all government agencies in order to improve government, not the wholesale destruction that Trump has promised. Many reflect back on political disasters and ask why did they not know, why didn’t anybody do something. Ask yourself that now. Ignore this at your own peril.
