One person was killed in a barn fire in Branford on Thursday evening.

Fire crews at 6:22 p.m. responded to 155 N. Ivy St. after the Emergency Communication Center received a 911 call reporting a barn on fire, according to the Branford Fire Department.

While firefighters were en route they received additional reports indicating the fire was spreading to other structures and that an individual who could not be located may have been in the burning barn.

When crews arrived they found a barn-style shed on fire with flames spreading to an adjacent building, fire officials said. The fire was quickly brought under control.

When firefighters searched the barn, they found an individual dead, officials said. No additional information has been released about the victim.

The fire is being investigated by the Branford Fire Marshal with assistance from the Branford Police Department and the Connecticut State Police Fire Investigation Unit.

Fire officials said they would not be releasing any additional information at this time.
