
This coming Wednesday, May 22, more than 100 Connecticut pizza makers, legislators veterans and community leaders will travel to Washington, D.C., according to a congresswomen.
The delegation will be partnering with U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-3, who will enter a statement into the Congressional Record declaring “New Haven the Pizza Capital of the United States,” per a statement.

“New Haven has the best pizza in the country – and it is not even close,” said DeLauro. “Ask anyone from Connecticut and they will tell you Connecticut pizza, or ‘apizza’; as we call it, is hands down — no contest — the best pizza in America. I am looking forward to dropping the hammer on this debate and formally declaring in the Congressional Record that New Haven is the Pizza Capital of the United States.”

Connecticut will be declared “The Pizza State,” honoring thousands of families and workers who have devoted their lives and craft to making the best pizza in the U.S., per a statement.

“Many things are debated in the Halls of Congress and Washington, D.C., but one thing that’s not up for debate is that New Haven has the best pizza in the country,” said New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker. “Our local pizzerias are local, national, and international destinations, and New Haven-style pizzerias are being established and shipping their pizza products all over the globe. However, there’s nothing like going to the actual source, and I encourage everyone to come visit New Haven, enjoy our pizza and all our city has to offer.”
Several New Haven pizzerias are making the trip, including the city’s big three: Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, Sally’s Apizza, and Modern Apizza, according to a statement.

The event was organized by pizza guru and Taste of New Haven founder Colin M. Caplan, who said, “New Haven and Connecticut have been an epicenter of expert pizza making for more than a century and recognizing these pizza makers, families and workers who have fed generations of loyal customers is a noble task.”
