A two-car crash with serious injuries shut down Interstate 84 temporarily on Monday morning, state police said.

Troopers from Troop H in Hartford responded to I-84 West between Exits 38 and 39A in Farmington around 5:43 a.m. on Monday for a reported two-car crash in the left and center lanes, according to the Connecticut State Police.

Both drivers were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, state police said.

The highway was closed during the investigation and has since reopened, according to state police.
