UConn women’s basketball moved up one spot in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll released Monday.

The Huskies (1-0) came in at No. 5, a bump up from its No. 6 ranking in the AP Top 25 preseason poll. That ranking, which came out in October, was the program’s lowest preseason ranking since the 2006-07 season.

Rounding out the rest of the top five are No. 1 South Carolina, No. 2 Stanford, No. 3 Texas and No. 4 Iowa.

The Huskies will face the No. 3 Longhorns on Monday night, followed by another top matchup against No. 10 North Carolina State on Sunday.

Other Big East schools were represented in the poll after a strong opening week of the season for the conference. Creighton came in at No. 20 and Villanova was in at No. 24. DePaul also received four votes.

Sophomore guard Azzi Fudd was also named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after impressing in the Huskies’ season opener last Thursday. She recorded 26 points, six steals and four assists in the 98-39 win over Northeastern.

UConn’s first big test of the season against No. 3 Texas will tip off at 6:30 p.m. ET Monday night on Fox Sports 1.
