A Connecticut man was arrested and charged with allegedly driving 108 mph on an Interstate 84 off-ramp and eluding state troopers following an attempted traffic stop last October.

Todd Orlowski, 53, of Danbury was taken into custody on an arrest warrant on Friday on charges of reckless driving, disobeying signal of an officer and engaging police in pursuit, according to Connecticut State Police.

On Oct. 27, 2024, a trooper was conducting speed enforcement on I-84 west near the Exit 2 off-ramp in Danbury just after 8 p.m. when they reportedly observed a blue Audi S5 in the Exit 2 deceleration lane traveling at a high rate of speed, the arrest warrant affidavit said.

The trooper reported that the Audi also was clocked at 108 mph and 96 mph in a posted 55 mph zone, according to the warrant affidavit.

The trooper said they pulled behind the Audi and followed it on to Old Ridgebury Road “to locate a safe location to for a traffic stop,” the warrant affidavit said. When the trooper ran the registration plate through the COLLECT, the registration reportedly came back to Orlowski, according to the warrant affidavit.

When the trooper initiated his emergency lights and siren, the Audi continued driving south on Old Ridgebury Road without stopping, the warrant affidavit said. The trooper then stopped following the Audi at 47 Old Ridgebury Road.

Over two hours later, troopers went to a residence on Old Ridgebury Road in an attempt to speak with Orlowski. Troopers reportedly observed what appeared to be the Audi through a small garage window but were unable to make contact with Orlowski, according to the warrant affidavit.

On Nov. 2, 2024, troopers were able to speak with Orlowski at a residence and asked him if he was driving his vehicle the night of the attempted traffic stop. Orlowski reportedly said he was driving his vehicle on that date and time on his way home from dropping off his daughter, the warrant affidavit said.

He was asked why he did not pull over, he reportedly said he knew he was close to his house and he thought the trooper would just follow him to his home and talk about it, according to the warrant affidavit.

When the trooper informed Orlowski that he clocked him driving at the high rate of speed, Orlowski reportedly stated he would do whatever the trooper wanted him to do, the warrant affidavit said.

“Orlowski stated he has bought the vehicle recently and he drives it once a week,” the warrant affidavit said. “Orlowski stated he was wrong for traveling that fast and he should have hit the brakes but he was getting off the ramp.”

Based on the investigation, an arrest warrant was applied for and granted. Orlowski was taken into custody just before 7:30 p.m. on Friday and processed at Troop A in Southbury, He was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled for arraignment on Jan. 22 at Danbury Superior Court.
