If you’ve ever dreamed of being part of a dogsled race, Jumpfest in Salisbury might be the event for you.
The unique winter event, which will kick off under newly installed lights at Satre Hill in Salisbury on Jan. 31, includes the popular Human Dog Sled Race, where five people pull a friend around in a sled over a 0.3-mile track.
Competitors will go for glory in the men’s, women’s and mixed categories, and it’s not just about speed. The People’s Choice Award is the ultimate prize, according to Jumpfest organizers, given to the team with the most creative costumes and sled design.
“Think outside the sled — inner tubes, steam-punk rigs, you name it. The crazier, the better! Dress to impress, unleash your team spirit, and let the snow-filled fun begin,” a release from Jumpfest said.
Registration is open through January 30 at jumpfest.org. Proceeds benefit the Salisbury Winter Sports Association’s Junior Ski Programs.
Jumpfest also features a ski jumping competition with Olympic hopefuls. Ski jumping action will take place Jan. 31-Feb. 2, with the Salisbury Ski Jumping Invitational on Feb. 1 and the Eastern U.S. Ski Jumping Championships at 1 p.m. on Feb. 2.
