A man was arrested last week and accused of burglarizing a sports betting venue in Waterbury.
Officers responded to Winner’s at 155 Thomaston Ave. at 4:45 a.m. when the alarm to the building was tripped, according to Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police Department.
Bessette said investigators found that a man used a rock to break the glass of the building before entering and allegedly taking lottery tickets that were not activated. The male then man on foot and could not immediately be located.
Around 10 a.m., members of the police department’s Gang Task Force and the State Police Violent Crimes Task Force were conducting a separate investigation at 174 Willow St. when they saw a man who matched the description of the suspect in the burglary, according to Bessette. The individual, identified as 53-year-old Aric McCray of New Haven, was taken into custody on charges of trespassing and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with the Willow Street incident.
Bessette said McCray was later charged in connection with the burglary. He faces charges of third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief.
Bessette noted that investigators found McCray has a history of burglary arrests and convictions and has six pending cases in New Haven Superior Court.
McCray remains held on a $100,000 bond following an appearance in Waterbury Superior Court. He is due back in court on Feb. 5.
