Police are investigating a fatal collision in West Haven on Sunday night that left a female pedestrian dead and motorcyclist critically injured.
Officers were dispatched to the area of 277 Campbell Ave. around 10 p.m. on Sunday on the report of a motorcycle crash, according to Sgt. Scott Allard of the West Haven Police Department.
Officers learned that the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Campbell Avenue when it struck a female pedestrian who was crossing the street, Allard said.
After striking the pedestrian, the motorcyclist reportedly lost control and dumped the bike onto its side where it slid until it came to rest, according to Allard.
The woman, identified as 47-year-old Jaymie Marazzi Taylor of West Haven, was transported to a local hospital where she later pronounced dead, Allard said. The motorcyclist was also transported to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
The West Haven Police Department’s Major Accident Squad was called to the crash scene to conduct the investigation.
The collision caused police to shut down Campbell Avenue from Walnut Street to Atwater Street for approximately six hours as an investigation was conducted, according to Allard.
