At least one person was injured in a wrong way crash on Interstate 291 in South Windsor on Sunday night.

Emergency crews just after 9 p.m. responded to I-291 West between Exits 4 and 5 on the report of a crash involving a wrong-way driver, according to the South Windsor Fire Department.

Fire officials said one vehicle ended up off the right shoulder and into some trees. The other vehicle came to a stop in the left travel lane.

According to fire officials, at least one person was taken to an area hospital.

The Manchester Fire Department as well as the Ambulance Service of Manchester were the first dispatched to the scene, which was in an area near the Manchester and South Windsor border, fire officials said. South Windsor fire crews responded once the crash was confirmed to be in their town.

Connecticut State Police also responded, fire officials said.

One lane on the westbound side of the highway remained open while crews were at the scene.
