A Connecticut man was sentenced to two years in prison for a firearm trafficking offense, according to federal authorities

Tremayne Ferguson, also known as “Tre,” 24, of West Haven, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Omar A. Williams in Hartford to a total of 27 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, according to federal authorities.

Citing court documents and statements made in court, authorities said that, in July 2023, Stefan Bagley, Jr. was shot and wounded while in his vehicle in Bridgeport and tater that day, his vehicle was used in another shooting incident in Bridgeport. However, investigators learned that, “between October 2022 and October 2023, Bagley purchased more than 20 handguns from licensed firearm dealers and then trafficked the guns to a network of customers,” authorities said in a statement.

“Bagley typically scratched the serial numbers off of the firearms before providing them to his customers, making the guns more difficult to trace,” authorities said in the statement.

While investigating, authorities said, “law enforcement seized text messages revealing that Ferguson transported and facilitated the transport of two firearms from Bagley to other individuals.  Ferguson also asked Bagley to purchase firearms on his behalf.”

Ferguson was on state probation during this times, authorities said. Most of the firearms Bagley trafficked are not unaccounted for, authorities said.

Ferguson was arrested in December, 2023 and in September, 2024, he pleaded guilty to firearm trafficking conspiracy, authorities said. Ferguson is free a $75,000 bond and must report to prison on February 17, authorities said.

Bagley pleaded guilty to the same charge and awaits sentencing, authorities.

U.S. Attorney Vanessa Roberts Avery said the case was prosecuted, “in part, under the new criminal provisions of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which Congress enacted and the President signed in June 2022.”  It was investigated by Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Bridgeport Police Department, and Connecticut State Police.
