CT man dies after running stop sign, colliding with pickup truck in Westbrook

A Connecticut man died after running a stop sign and crashing into a pickup truck in Westbrook on Wednesday afternoon.

Troopers responded to a serious crash at the intersection of Boston Post Road and Hammock Road North around 3:33 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Connecticut State Police.

State police said a Ford F-150 was traveling eastbound on Boston Post Road when a Honda Civic, traveling southbound on Hammock Road North, drove through a stop sign at the intersection, causing a collision.

The Honda driver, identified as 76-year-old Michael Sutyla of Clinton, was transported by Westbrook EMS to Middlesex Shoreline Clinic where he was pronounced dead, according to state police.

State police said the Ford driver, a 71-year-old man from Louisa, Virginia, did not report any injuries. The Ford passenger, a 70-year-old woman from Louisa, Virginia, was transported to Middlesex Shoreline Clinic with suspected minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Trooper Alex Tomasello at Troop F at 860-399-2100.
