A Connecticut man accused of stabbing a friend during an altercation in Griswold on Wednesday is facing assault charges, state police said.
Troopers from Troop E in Montville responded to a residence on Main Street in Griswold around 6:14 p.m. on Wednesday for a reported stabbing incident, according to the Connecticut State Police.
Dispatch advised troopers that the suspect, a man, had left the residence on foot. Troopers were provided a physical description of the man but were unable to locate him on any of the surrounding roads as they were responding to the scene, state police said.
Troopers met with the victim, who alleged that they had been stabbed by a friend, identified as 44-year-old Alan Frazier, after a verbal argument escalated, according to state police. The victim claimed that Frazier was a friend and they were trying to help him out as he was homeless, state police said.
The victim said that Frazier, who was allegedly heavily intoxicated, began verbally threatening physical harm and started to lunge with a knife, according to state police.
“The victim reported that Frazier had cut their hand with the knife and punched them in the face during this altercation, and the victim ultimately told Frazier to leave,” state police said.
A witness who was at the residence during altercation corroborated the victim’s story, according to state police. Both people claimed that at some point during the altercation, Frazier had two knives. State police said both knives were located within the residence and seized as evidence.
Troopers observed a cut on the victim’s left hand, which was bleeding. The victim was treated by EMS personnel, and it was determined that their injuries were not life-threatening, according to state police.
Troopers continued to search the area for Frazier but were unable to locate him on Wednesday. On Thursday, around 12:04 a.m., troopers were dispatched to a residence on School Street in Griswold for reports of a man outside “moaning loudly,” state police said.
Troopers identified the man as Frazier. He was arrested and taken to an area hospital for a medical evaluation, according to state police.
Frazier was later charged with disorderly conduct, second-degree assault, second-degree threatening and second-degree reckless endangerment. He was being held on a $50,000 bond and was scheduled to appear at Norwich Superior Court on Thursday.
