An investigation into a “suspicious vehicle” in Waterbury led to the arrest of a man and a juvenile after a search reportedly led to the discovery of heroin, crack cocaine and a loaded stolen firearm.

Officers assigned to the Waterbury Police Department Patrol Division observed a vehicle with heavily tinted windows idling in the parking lot of the Citgo gas station at 1387 Watertown Ave., according to Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police Department.

While investigating, police discovered that the vehicle, a 2010 Acura TL, had “a misuse of marker plates,” Bessette said.

Police were able to identified the driver as 36-year-old Tarell Thomas, according to Bessette. The front passenger was identified as a 17-year-old juvenile.

Police conducted a search of the vehicle and reported seized a loaded Glock 9mm firearm with an extended magazine that was reported as stolen, various quantities of heroin and crack cocaine and $1,800 in U.S. currency, Bessette said.

Thomas was arrested and charged with conspiracy (sale of narcotics), risk of injury to a minor and interfering with police. He was being held on a $50,000 bond pending a court arraignment on Thursday.

The juvenile was also arrested and charged with two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell, two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell within a school zone, and one count each of theft of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a permit, illegal possession of large capacity magazine, weapons in a motor vehicle, illegal sale/transfer of a firearm and interfering with police.
