Nancy W. Simmons OBITUARY

Nancy W. Simmons OBITUARY

On December 19, 2024 God reached out to our Mother, Nancy W. Simmons, to join Him/Her in Heaven. She was born on March 16, 1931 in New Britain, CT. to George and Lucille Williams. Nancy lived an extraordinary life. She graduated from CT Teachers College (CCSU now). On September 1, 1951 she married the love of her life, Roland H. Simmons, also from New Britain. For the next decade, they moved throughout the country, including Texas, Indiana, Mass., New Jersey and CT, creating a loving family along the way. They finally settled in Avon, CT in 1966, where they built the Avon Convalescent Home (Avon Health Center now). While Roland was also the administrator, Nancy worked there periodically, while raising and strengthening her 5 children: Michael, Mary Lou, Dean, John and Amy. She was very involved in their activities including soccer, baseball, basketball and swimming. Many summers were spent at Point O’ Woods in Old Lyme, boating, fishing and swimming while entertaining our friends and family, especially Lolly and Don Canfield. Nancy also enjoyed travelling, whether it was to vacation in England, Bermuda or Hawaii or visit her children in San Francisco, St. Louis and Omaha. After a short retirement in Port St. Lucie (Home of the Mets!), Nancy returned to live in Avon and then with her daughter Mary Lou in Rhode Island. Her last days at Apple Valley Rehab in Plainville (Thank You) were happy and fulfilling. Her wit and good nature are sorely missed by the staff. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, her husband Roland, her sister Barbara and brother George (Buddy). Along with her children, Nancy will be remembered and cherished by her Grandchildren: Tyler, Kelsey, Devin, Emma, Spencer, Amanda, Reagan, Madison, Noah, Owen, Patrick, Melissa and Mom’s Great Grandchildren, Cora, Andrea and Oliver. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter as Nancy was an avid animal lover. There will only be a private family service for Nancy.
