John (Jack) Cambria OBITUARY

John (Jack) Cambria OBITUARY

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of John “Jack” Cambria who was called to eternal rest on Wednesday December 18th, 2024. Born January 16th,1945 in Hartford, he was a devoted son to his beloved parents, the late Anthony and Mary Cambria of East Hartford and a devoted brother to his late sister, Judy (Cambria) Skirvin, also of East Hartford. Jack was a 1963 graduate of Manchester High School who later, proudly served with the Army National Guard during the widespread civil unrest that erupted in the late sixties. He joined the Southern New England Telephone Co. in 1970, where he truly enjoyed his work, made many lasting friendships, eventually retiring from there in 2000. A six-time Grand Knight in the Royal Order of Stone Crushers, Jack was born with fiery red hair for a reason, anointed by the Devil himself with a lightning-fast, acerbic wit and a playful prankishness that would often leave everyone in the room convulsing with laughter. A truly unique character, who marched to the beat of his own drum, his sometime gruff exterior was merely a smokescreen for a chicken heart and a selfless spirit that forever yearned to help out a fallen sparrow. Jack possessed a tremendous mechanical aptitude, boundless patience, and would readily tackle any engine ailing, plumbing, electrical or carpentry project, the most memorable of those with his father at his side. An Army marksman with rifle and pistol, he enjoyed target shooting as well as boating and fishing during the many summers he spent at Point O’ Woods Beach in Old Lyme. Jack is survived by three brothers, Donald (Judi) Cambria of Newton, Mass., Dr. Gerald (Susan) Cambria of Orange, and his most dedicated caretaker and wingman, Steve Cambria, and sister-in-law Lisa Cambria of Manchester, a brother-in-law, Gary Skirvin of East Hartford, several nieces and nephews and frequent visitor, Lynne Letizio of Berlin. Though deeply saddened, we take solace in that Jack will soon be reunited with “M and T”, Judy and his “pal” and special angel, the late Kristin DeBonee of Manchester. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jack’s name may please be made to WJMJ Radio, 15 Peach Orchard Rd., Prospect, CT 06712-1052. Farewell Yukon Jack. Heaven will be busting a gut this Christmas!
