Maria C. Vecchiarino OBITUARY
Maria C. Vecchiarino, 84, beloved wife of Giovanni B. Vecchiarino, of Wethersfield, entered into God’s eternal care on Friday, January 17, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Maria was born in Palazzolo Acreide, Prov. Siracusa, Italy. The cherished daughter of the late Giuseppe and Itra (Valvo) Pirruccio. Her life was a testament to the love and dedication that she had for her family.
Maria was educated in Italy. She came to the U.S. and continued her education and ultimately received her U.S. citizenship in February 2009.
An accomplished seamstress, Maria shared her remarkable talents alongside her husband Giovanni, as they lovingly operated their tailoring shop, “John the Tailor” for many years. Together, they took pride in providing custom tailoring that brought joy to their loyal customers. Maria was also known for her incredible cooking skills, delighting family and friends with her lovingly prepared home-cooked meals, a symbol of her warmth and generosity. She also enjoyed nights out, vacationing and spending time at the beach with family and friends.
Maria had an active life, involved in IAS Woman’s club, Italian American Ladies Society and the Italian Women’s Bowling League.
Maria was a gentle soul with a subtle sense of humor, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Giovanni and their devoted children: Joseph Vecchiarino of Glastonbury, Claudio Vecchiarino and his wife, Amy, of Hebron, and John B. Vecchiarino Jr. of Wethersfield. She is also survived by her dear sister, Adelina Ferla, and her husband, Paolo, of Wethersfield. Maria was the proud and loving Nonna to her precious grandchildren: Ariana Marie Grant and her husband William , Ciara Elise, Giovanni Claudio, and Gemma Leigh, and the adoring great-Nonna of Vanessa Marie Grant. Her extended family of nieces and nephews will also remember her with affection and gratitude. She will be most remembered for her generosity, her kind and good-natured spirit.
Maria was predeceased by her beloved daughter-in-law, Pamela Leigh Vecchiarino, whose memory remained close to her heart.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Maria’s life. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial to honor her life will take place on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Christ the King Parish – Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury, where Maria will be laid to rest in peace.
