Michael Stanley Domian
August 14, 1965 – January 11, 2025
Farmington, CT
Mike peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Throughout this past year, Mike displayed remarkable strength and unwavering positivity as he embraced each day with gratitude, cherishing his time with family and friends.
Throughout his life, Mike faced numerous serious health challenges. In 2019, before his cancer diagnosis, he triumphed over a liver transplant, a result of hemochromatosis. Thanks to the generosity of his donor and the skilled, compassionate care of the doctors and staff at Yale New Haven Health, he was given the gift of many more years—years blessed with unforgettable moments and cherished memories.
Mike was the beloved son of the late Stanley and Joan (Gutherie) Domian. He was deeply cherished by his older brother, Doug Domian of Griswold, and his younger sister, Tracey Campise of Tolland. Mike’s family shared a bond of love and closeness that lasted throughout his life. Raised in Vernon, he formed lifelong friendships that remained with him. Summers spent at the family’s lake house in Pachaug ignited and fostered his lifelong love of the outdoors and fishing—a passion he carried with him throughout his life.
Mike married the love of his life, Marylou Morelli, twenty-nine years ago, and together they built a life filled with love, joy, and devotion. As a husband, Mike was selfless, compassionate, and endlessly supportive. To Mike, Marylou was not just his partner; she was his best friend and the most precious person in his life. Their bond was a beautiful testament to true love and care.
Mike was a proud father to his two beloved sons, Zach (24) and Shane (23), whom he loved more than anything in the world. He was deeply involved in every aspect of their lives; chaperoning school events, coaching their sports teams, and sharing his love of hobbies like golfing, fishing, and football. His children were his pride and joy, and he was their constant source of strength, encouragement, and unconditional love. Mike’s humor, warmth, and infectious laughter brought light to every room and will be missed every day.
Mike graduated from the University of Hartford, an institution that held a special place in the hearts of the Domian family. His father, a graduate of the Hartford Art School, set the foundation for a legacy of involvement with the University. Mike and his brother, Doug, both graduated from the School of Business and were members of the University’s golf team.
After graduation, Mike pursued a successful career in the golf industry. His hard work and dedication led him to become the University’s youngest Division 1 Head Golf Coach. During his tenure, he coached standout players like Pat Sheehan, who played on the PGA Tour, and Mike Lipnick, now a PGA instructor working with Stewart Cink. Under Mike’s leadership, the team qualified for the NCAA Regionals each year, a testament to his skill as a coach and his ability to inspire excellence. The game of golf is in the Domian family’s blood, but for Mike, it was a way to bring friends together and strengthen relationships.
Mike possessed a strong entrepreneurial spirit. In his late 20s, he teamed up with three college friends to co-found National Supplement Warehouse, a sports nutrition mail-order business. What began in a modest condominium quickly grew into a thriving enterprise, expanding to ten retail locations across Connecticut and Massachusetts, along with a successful e-commerce division. Mike’s passion and drive helped propel the company to new heights, and he continued to excel in the sports nutrition industry throughout his career.
Mike was deeply committed to his community and believed in the importance of public service. He served for over a decade as an elected commissioner on the Southington Board of Water Commissioners. In 2015, Mike received the highest vote tally of any elected official in the region, earning an impressive 6,359 votes. Holding leadership positions as both vice president and, for two terms, president, Mike oversaw the department’s budget and was involved in crucial policy making regarding the town’s watershed, infrastructure and water quality.
In 2011, Mike was instrumental in bringing ice skating back to the town of Southington. He spearheaded a fundraising initiative to install a temporary ice rink in Memorial Park for residents to enjoy. Mike later secured permission to relocate the rink to a centrally located plot of Water Department land in the downtown area. Year after year, Mike was hands-on in setting up the rink, ensuring the project’s continued success and providing a cherished winter activity for the community.
Mike was an avid fisherman, and much like his approach to golf, he embraced the sport through the lens of friendship. He was introduced to the sport at an early age, fishing for largemouth bass on Pachaug Pond with his father and brother. Mike’s love of fishing grew through his friendships. He was introduced to trout fishing by close, lifelong friends, and a salmon fishing trip quickly became an annual tradition with his high school buddies. Eventually, Mike expanded his fishing adventures by becoming a boat owner, taking his friends on unforgettable trips on the ocean waters.
In addition to his wife, children, and siblings, Mike is survived by his sister-in-law Tammy Domian, brother-in-law Curt Campise, nieces Breann Campise, Alyssa, and Chelsea (Jake) Swanson, uncle Robert Domian (Marsha) and an extended family of cousins, and countless friends who will miss him dearly.
Mike was truly a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His love, laughter, and generosity will continue to inspire us each day. He was a devoted husband, father, son, and friend, and his life was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
