Lois S. Hinman OBITUARY
Lois S. Hinman, 97, of Collinsville passed away peacefully Friday January 3, 2025 at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Ithaca, NY, the only child of Raymond F. and Elizabeth (Rice) Sheffield.
Lois attended Ithaca College and moved to Collinsville in 1946 where she raised the large family she always wanted. With her family she was active in a multitude of sports – water skiing, snow skiing, roller skating and ice skating.
She worked in the office of Canton Schools for many years prior to getting involved in Hinman’s Flower Shop & Greenhouse business. Lois started in the office side of the shop and quickly progressed to floral design.
Lois’s love of art and history brought her to take courses at a local college and started her on a lifelong passion to travel abroad. She traveled extensively in Europe including a desire to go to Egypt, even riding a camel.
She is survived by three children and their spouses, Bette and Al Knupp of Jacksonville, FL, John and Judy Hinman of Canton, and Mary-Jane and Don Riley of Burlington, along with 13 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Lois was predeceased by her son William “Hap” Hinman, his wife Nina and their son Trevor, and great grandson Mathew M. Harrison.
The family would like to give special thanks to the services of Interim Healthcare, McLean Homecare and Hospice, Liz Cornish of New Season in Life and special caregiver Shelly D’Andrea.
Arrangements are by Ahern Funeral Home in Unionville. A celebration of her life will take place in the near future.
In memory of Lois, the family encourages everyone to support their local florist business.
