Madelyn E. O’Brien OBITUARY
Madelyn E. O’Brien, 90, of Farmington, formerly of Cromwell, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025. Born and raised in New Britain, daughter of the late Joseph and Madeline (Watson) O’Brien, she graduated from local schools and went on to receive her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Central CT State University. Madelyn was a guidance counselor and teacher for the Wallingford Board of Education for 35 years and also held a real estate agent license. She was active in Cromwell politics supporting local candidates and volunteered in the registrar of voters for many elections. She was also involved in many town committees including planning and zoning and inland wetland committees. Madelyn was also a world traveler, enjoying many trips with friends both within the U. S. and abroad. China, where she collected art and Ireland, the place of her heritage, were among her favorites. She enjoyed playing bridge and had a love for cooking. She is survived by her niece Anne Marie Riley and her husband Glenn of West Hartford, two grandnephews Brett and Scott Riley of Granby, and her cousin Benedict O’Brien, his wife Margarete, and their family of CA. She also leaves close family friend Anne Collins of VA. She was predeceased by her brother Joseph Gregory O’Brien. Her funeral service will be private with Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington.
