Kathleen Agnes Roosa OBITUARY

Kathleen Agnes (O’Malley) Roosa of Simsbury, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 10, 2025, with her family at her side. Born on April 14, 1938, in Cleveland, OH, Kathleen was the daughter of James Furman and Agnes Clare (TeLoeken) O’Malley. She graduated from Ohio University in 1960, with a degree in Education. She taught elementary school in Bay Village, OH before turning to her adventurous side and becoming a flight attendant for United Airlines, eventually using her education degree to become a flight attendant instructor. She married L. John Roosa, Jr. in 1967 and moved to Simsbury, CT, where she and John raised their daughter, Lauri. Kathleen was employed by Simsbury Public Schools for 25 years as a Media Center Assistant in both Simsbury High School and Henry James Memorial Junior High. Kathleen valued her independence and was able to maintain that until the week before her passing.

She is survived by her daughter, Lauri (Roosa) Swanke, son-in-law Kurt, grandchildren Sean and Megan Swanke and their dog Harbor of Colchester, CT, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, brother James (Regina) O’Malley and sister Marguerite “Nancy” (Tom) Gavan. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at UCONN Health Center for their care and support during Kathleen’s stay.

There will be a calling hour on Saturday, January 25, from 9:30-10:30, at Vincent Funeral Home in Simsbury, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00, at St. Mary’s Church in Simsbury. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kathleen may be made to the UCONN Health Foundation at foundation.uconn.edu/give-now/uconn-health/ and the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
