Carol Steuernagel OBITUARY

Carol (Dohan) Steuernagel, 88, passed away peacefully in Tampa, Florida on, Thursday, November 28, 2024. Carol was born on August 25, 1936, in Norwalk, Connecticut to the late Catherine and Peter Dohan. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Walter Steuernagel and her sister Kathy Madison. She is survived by her sons Craig (Mary Ann) Steuernagel of Cromwell, CT, and Chris Steuernagel of Tampa, Fl, grandsons Matthew Steuernagel (Amanda), Cameron Steuernagel, and her nieces Jane (Madison) Way and Karin (Madison) Springer. Carol was a devoted wife of 65 years as well as a doting mother and grandmother. She graduated from Connecticut Teachers College where she received her teaching degree, and later earned her Masters in Education from the University of Hartford. Although she only taught for a short time before turning her efforts to raising her family, she imparted her wisdom and lifelong lessons on her family who she cherished. Carol and her husband who she affectionately called “Wally,” spent their early years in East Hartford where they forged many lifelong friendships. In her younger years, Carol enjoyed going to the beach, camping, bike riding and raising her family. In her later years she moved to Columbia, Connecticut where Carol and Wally enjoyed getting to know the community, gardening in their yard, canoeing on the lake, taking long walks and just enjoying each other’s company. Above all, Carol loved spending time with her family, especially her grandsons, Matthew and Cameron, whom she adored. She loved celebrating birthdays, holidays and any occasion that involved getting together with her family and friends. Carol always put her family first, and was always willing to help in anyway she could. She also cherished her memories with her dear friend Angie Alexander and friends and neighbors in East Hartford, Lucille Sansevero, Joan Berry and Carol Rodrigue. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 24th at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 10 Elm St., Middletown. Following the Mass of Christian burial, Carol will be interned along with her late husband Walter, in the Veteran’s Cemetery in Middletown, Connecticut.
